However one assesses Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, the film has drawn attention to the death of Jesus in a way that preachers and teachers, who annually labor to place Good Friday before their people, can only envy. One could scarcely have imagined that the crucifixion would become a topic for movie reviewers and talk show hosts. Gerard Sloyan’s book comes as a welcome resource. The book and film cover Martin's search for Notovitch's claimed "Life of Issa." The book Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal, by Christopher Moore, is a fictional comedy which tells the story of Jesus' adolescence and his travels to India .

Yes, Jesus died for us! Finally, we must respond to what God has done for us. We must believe Christ died and rose again, and we must commit our lives to Him as our Savior and Lord. And that’s what I urge you to do today. God’s promise is for you: “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts ). Ask Christ into your heart.   But that which changed because Jesus died is both radically new and covered in the New Testament with crisp details. Strangely, it is also absent from our Christian vocabulary. I can illustrate this by using Galatians as a good introduction to what changed and why a new analysis is needed.

Christians who have already died will rise to be with Christ, immediately followed by those still alive. Together, all believers will then be with the Lord. The last part of verse 17 then notes, "so we will always be with the Lord." All believers will from that point forward be with Christ forever in a new body.   That’s why it is so important to re-affirm the nature and purpose of the atonement: Christ died for me, but not because of me. In John , Jesus clarifies that he didn’t have to die, but chose to, because of who he is. In short, Christ’s sacrifice was not a reflection of my greatness, but of his.
